Proposed Mitigation Bank

Proposed Centralhatchee Mitigation Bank, Heard County, Georgia (1175 acres)

The proposed Centralhatchee Mitigation Bank consist of 4.5 miles of streams located in the Middle Chattahoochee River watershed. The restoration area consist of floodplain fields that are actively farmed (hay and corn) that have straightened streams and adjacent forested stream areas. These stream areas are incised which has decreased overbank flooding and connectivity with their adjacent floodplains. Stream restoration practices will include restoring degraded reaches along into channels containing stable dimensions, patterns, and profiles. Additional stream bank vegetation will be planted to enhance wildlife habitat and to provide additional stabilization to the existing disturbed soils. Most riparian buffers along Centralhatchee Creek are denuded of deep-rooted vegetation and consist primarily of pasture grasses and cornfields.
